2024 ASOK-KITA Doing Business in the US SeminarThe Association of American State Offices in Korea (ASOK) co-hosted the 2024 Doing Business in the US Seminar with Korea International Trade Association and the Korea-U.S. Economic Council (KUSEC) on April 17. The event was attended by approximately over 100 Korean companies, Korean representatives of U.S. state offices, and officials from the US Embassy in Korea. There were also presentations among the representatives of the main U.S. state/county/city offices about the US business environment and government programs for the companies, as well as a 1:1 business match-making session involving 15 offices. 2024 ASOK Board MeetingOn April 17, 2024, the Association of American State Offices in Korea (ASOK) held a board meeting at Samsungdong, Seoul. Discussions on events for the second half of 2024 and the procedures for the membership of new offices were made.

[2023 ASOK General Assembly & Year-end Luncheon]The Association of American State Offices in Korea (ASOK) convened its 2023 general assembly in Gwanghwamun on December 14, 2023. The gathering allowed members the chance to reflect on this year's activities and the Association's plans for 2024. ASOK would like to express our gratitude to Andrew Gately, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, Michael Kim, Second Secretary for Commerce, and Hee-Sook Baik, Commercial Specialist at the U.S. Embassy, for the great support that they and the whole U.S. Commercial Service provide to the Association.

[2023 ASOK Meeting with East-West Center](From left: Euna Cho (Manager of Maryland State Korea Office), Abbigail Hull (Program Manager of East-West Center), Sunhee Kim (Secretary General of ASOK), Danelle Hopkins (Senior Policy Advisor & Project Manager of North Dakota), Kevin Monroe (Director of Intergovernmental Affairs), Jonathan Cleave (Chairman of ASOK), Cameron Deptula (Special Assistant of Hawai’i Governor Josh Green M.D.), Sonny Vinuya (Outreach Director of Southern Nevada), Hee Jung Shin (Vice Chair of ASOK), Youjung Yoon (Manager of ASOK)) ASOK's board members led by Chairman Jonathan Cleave and Vice-chair Hee Jung Shin met with representatives from Hawaii, North Dakota, North Carolina, and Nevada through the Asia Matters for America Governors’ Staff Program of East-West Center last week. In the meeting, discussions centered around the increasingly tight links between the two countries and ways to facilitate bilateral trade, tourism, and investment flows. The meeting also provided a platform to explore various forms of collaboration and partnership.

Kim (Commercial Officer, Second Secretary for Commerce)) ASOK's board members led by Chairman Jonathan Cleave and Vice-chair Hee Jung Shin met with Andrew Gately, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul last week. In the meeting, ASOK expressed their gratitude to Mr. Gately for accepting the position of ASOK Honorary Member and discussed future cooperation between the Association and the U.S. Department of Commerce.

2023 FOMEK SeminarThe Association of American State offices in Korea (ASOK) co-hosted a U.S. investment seminar with the Federation of Middle Market Enterprises of Korea (FOMEK) on May 30, 2023. ASOK and FOMEK signed an MOU to strengthen cooperation in support of Korean mid-sized companies’ U.S. investments. The event was attended by dozens of Korean mid-sized companies, local representatives of U.S. state offices, officials from the USCS Korea, and featured presentations from consultancy Samil PwC and U.S. law firm Burr & Forman LLP.
